Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Scientific Exploration

The Society for Scientific Exploration (SSE) is seeking candidates for the Editor-in-Chief (EiC) role at the Journal of Scientific Exploration (JSE).  This is the quarterly, peer-reviewed journal of the SSE with Gold Open Access status. Since 1987, the JSE has published original research and conceptual works on topics of interest across a wide spectrum of frontier science, ranging from apparent anomalies in established disciplines to rogue phenomena that seem to belong to no established area, as well as philosophical issues about the connections among disciplines. The Journal also contains book-multimedia reviews, letters to the editor, and peer correspondence.

Previous JSE editors have been leaders in frontier science in fields such as health and scientific development, zero-point energy, philosophy of psi and mediumship, and anomalistic psychology.

The EiC is currently a volunteer role that offers the unique opportunity to:
•    Influence the future of frontier science and anomalistics.
•    Provide editorial direction of the premier journal for the forward-thinking scientific research.
•    Present editorials with ideas about current issues in science and future directions.
•    Guide students, citizen scientists, early career researchers, and emerging thinkers.

Qualifications

•    Be a Ph.D. or equivalent, with an established scientific publication record.
•    Be a leading contributor in one or more areas of frontier science. While no EiC can have expertise across all the areas covered by the JSE, the EiC should have some generalist knowledge, as well as an acknowledged command and a leading scholarly track record of some area(s) in the Journal’s purview.
•    Prior experience performing similar duties for JSE or other journals, such as a guest editor for a special issue, Associate Editor experience, or other similar experience.
•    Must be collaborative, able to work successfully within team(s), and have the ability to manage and motivate key stakeholders. Must demonstrate evidence of good scientific and editorial judgement, as well as possess excellent written communication skills.

Timeline

The current EiC plans to step down at the end of Volume 40 (2026).  He is willing to mentor the new EiC during that time prior to the new EiC taking over for Volume 41.
