Synopsis:

The theory that consciousness is quantum informational in nature, hosted within quantum fields, is growing in popularity as explored by Penrose and Hammeroff, Fredrico Faggin, Thomas Gömitz and others. I previously postulated that quantum fields in the natural world could support a near-infinite number of bounded computational processes in superposition that manifest as individuated conscious entities, despite being hosted on a common substrate. These computational processes are masked by the "quantum foam" which is, essentially, the summation of all superimposed quantum informational processes (wavefunctions) measured through wavefunction collapse. In this talk I explore the notion that DNA serves as a quantum informational key that "extracts" our uniquely individuated consciousness from the near-infinite number of superimposed quantum processes, providing embodiment and agency to our unique consciousness in the physical domain. This working hypothesis suggests possible experimental methods for testing quantum informational theories of consciousness.

Biography:

Ed Lantz is an engineer, entrepreneur, and researcher with 30+ years pioneering immersive media for social impact. His work explores quantum consciousness and the cognitive effects of awe-inducing experiences. He chairs the boards of the Center for Conscious Creativity and Dome Fest West, leads immersive initiatives for the Social Impact Entertainment Society, and heads XR Venue Standards for MPAI. A Life Member of IEEE, Ed is a former delegate to the Producers Guild of America’s New Media Council and Chair Emeritus of LA ACM SIGGRAPH. He holds a master’s in electrical engineering with a focus on quantum physics and electromagnetics.
